July 29, 2001, Hokulani Holt Padilla participated in a
rare hula kuahu ceremony in Hilo this week for the 1st Annual World Conference on Hula.
Hoku is one of the most respected Kumu Hulas in all Hawaii.
The event was written up in the July 30 issue of the Star-Bulletin with Hoku appearing in the photo
(She's up front and to the left, we can barely see her face as she is to the left of Keali'i Reichel). .

Hoku Padilla was among 40 kumu chanting together
and more than 1,000 hula students dancing en masse
in front of a multitiered altar overflowing with native Hawaiian plants.




July, 2001, Carol's visit home to the Big island.
Eda flew in from Honolulu and kept us in touch by phone with Lorraine Alo.

July 5, 2001, met Al Willing at the Mapulehua Mango Patch with wife Jonny and ohana.
They went up to the Iliiliopae Heiau. Since John Kaimikaua was in Kona,
Bruddah Roy gave the "background".
